NFT Support For Facebook & Instagram Ended By Meta

Stopping Digital Collectibles On The Platforms

The company Meta, formerly known as Facebook, has chosen to gradually stop supporting NFTs on Facebook and Instagram. Less than a year has passed since the firm first pushed for the inclusion of digital collectibles on its platforms. Meta as a company had learned a lot from the project that it could use to improve future products that support creators, users, and businesses on its apps, both now and in the metaverse. For now, the business would concentrate on monetization prospects of reels and message payments throughout Meta.

What Are NFTs?

Non-fungible tokens, or NFTs, are distinctive digital assets that employ blockchain technology to authenticate ownership. They can stand in for a wide variety of digital items, including tweets, music, art, and videos. NFTs have grown in popularity as a tool for both makers and collectors to make money off of their digital creations.

NFTs In Meta

The NFT support function was introduced by Instagram in May of the same year after Mark Zuckerberg had earlier announced Instagram’s development on it at SXSW in March 2021. In November 2021, the business announced its expansion, enabling creators to mint and sell items directly on Instagram. Meta might involve NFTs in the metaverse, with the motive being that the users would be able to mint their avatar’s clothing as NFTs and transport it between various locations in the metaverse.

Future Updates

Many projects have been abandoned throughout the reorganisation phase that Meta has been going through. In the business’s year of efficiency, they have terminated thousands of employees and several initiatives. Novi, Meta’s cryptocurrency wallet, was fired last year, and reports that NFT support was on the roadmap never came to pass. Also, the business has scaled back on initiatives with Reality Labs, its metaverse branch, and its bonus scheme for Game creators.
