Android 14 To Get Predictive Back Gestures

New Way of Navigating Apps

A new Predictive Back Gesture will be released with the Android 14 operating system, as was revealed at the 2022 Developer Summit Event. This function will be standard on all devices running Android 14.0 or later after its release.

Predictive Back Gesture

Android 13 was the beta version whereby this one-of-a-kind feature made its debut. This function might serve as a helpful prompt when returning to the smartphone's home screen from inside an application. If you use back gestures or swipe up from the bottom of the screen to close an app, the home screen will appear briefly. After its formal release, Google hinted this functionality would be available in applications.

What To Expect?

There are benefits and drawbacks to every option. As was discovered during testing, the back gesture function unintentionally causes many users to close an app. As a consequence, metrics on how often an app was used and other crucial information stored inside it were lost. Google has assured users that they would be releasing a revised and bug-free version to address this.

Availability

Midway through 2023, we anticipate releasing this functionality, after which significant improvements and modifications will have been made. A few technical problems remain, mostly with privacy and security, which must be addressed before they can be made public. There is, however, little doubt that those using Android 14 will see this feature in the near future.
