Google Chrome Update

With Special Support for Tablets

Google is rolling out a new update for its Chrome browser that is designed to make it more friendly for Android tablet users. This update brings various ease-of-life features that will make the user experience a lot smoother and more productive, whether you use the basic touchscreen, a stylus, or even a mouse inside desktop mode.

Tab Swiping

One of the most basic functions added to this new browser experience is the ability to simply swipe across the address to switch between the tabs. This will be helpful to users who have lots of tabs open in their browsers, which makes it harder to switch between them without accidentally closing a few of them. This way, you can intuitively switch between different tabs without even reading the full title.

Drag & Drop

Another feature added to the browsing experience is the ability to drag and drop various items, such as text, images or links, between an open tab and other apps, such as Gmail, Google Keep, Google Photos, and more. All you need to do is select what you want to copy and then simply drag the selection over to whatever application you have open in an adjacent window. This takes full advantage of the multi-window multitasking feature that is a hallmark of the tablet experience. This feature was initially introduced in other apps, like Google Drive, Docs, Sheets, and Slides, and is not being rolled out to the Chrome browser.

Tabs Grid

Another way of navigating between the tabs is the new grid layout that can be accessed by simply swiping up from the bottom of the screen. This brings up a 'New Tab' style popup which contains all your open tabs neatly laid out in a grid, with large previews of all the websites showcasing the pages that you have access to. This way, you can easily find the tab you are looking for without clicking on the wrong ones.

Tab Groups

If you have the habit of opening up multiple windows of the same website on your browser while going through a search rabbit hole, you can easily manage the clutter by adding them to a new tabs group. This feature was introduced for the desktop Chrome browser back in 2020 and quickly became a favourite of people who love to save various tabs in their open browser. Now, this feature will also be supported by your Android tablet, so you can enjoy your browsing experience without adding to the mess.
