Google Wallet Adds IDs

Now Carry Digital ID & Drivers Licenses

Google launched the new Google Wallets earlier this year, which helps users store digitized versions of their credit cards, loyalty cards, vaccination cards, transit passes etc. Recently it rolled out a new feature that adds digitized state IDs and driver licences into the mix, so your Google Wallet can be a simple, private, and secure data storage.

Uses

With this feature, users will be able to organise all the required cards and documents in one place and in digital format without the hassle of carrying physical copies of everything. Whenever in need, the user can just take out his/her phone, open Google Wallet and present any of his/her cards for verification, transport, food, shopping or any other services.

Competition

Additionally, Apple has added support for Digital IDs on Apple Wallet, which is only available in three places right now but will expand to more in the future. For Google Wallet, a similar scenario is anticipated in which it will initially only serve a subset of states before adding support for additional states and countries in the future.

Availability

These new features will be added as a part of the new beta update of the Google Wallet app, which will roll with the updated Google Play Services v48.22. There are currently no specifics on how consumers may sign up for the beta test, when it starts or in which states will be conducted. For individuals who have signed up for the updated Google Play Services beta via the Play Store, the beta version might just be accessible.
