Intel Unison Platform

For Multi Device Integration

In recent years, a lot of companies have tried to bring multi device integration into their ecosystem, with Apple, Samsung, Huawei and others being at the forefront of this new interconnectivity revolution. While companies like Apple play in their own closed iOS and Mac ecosystem, Android manufacturers have teamed up with Microsoft to implement this solution on Windows devices through software collaborations. Now, Intel is planning to offer a more widespread solution in the form of the Intel Unison platform.

Intel Unison

Unison was initially developed by an Israeli firm called Screenovate, which is known for creating apps and software for beaming and mirroring applications. This company was recently acquired by Intel, following which they showcased this technology at CES 2022, where it was initially named Unison.

It is essentially a software solution that lets you connect your PC and mobile devices wirelessly and enables a whole host of inter-device operations across multiple operating systems. While this opens up a whole world of possibilities, for now, you can indulge in the following activities.

File Transfers

This is one of the most common use cases that you can use this platform for. Once connected, you will be able to transfer photos, videos, documents and various other files between your computer and mobile devices without the need for a wired connection. The whole process is expected to be a lot faster and much more secure than traditional Bluetooth. All the while offering a lot more options when it comes to productivity tasks.

For example, you can capture photos and videos through your phone and then quickly transfer them to your computer, where they can be edited and manipulated with the help of proper desktop applications that offer a lot more versatility. Similarly, you can create and edit lengthy documents on your desktop using a proper keyboard and mouse and then transfer the finished files to your phones for sharing via text apps. Or you can simply use the system to transfer media files between the two systems without having to go through specific applications like iTunes or other third-party alternatives.

Calls and Texts

Once your phone is connected to your computer, you can use your full-size keyboard and mouse setup to handle all your text-based communications. Having all your chats showcased on a big monitor will also make it easier to keep track of conversations in active group settings. It will also make it a lot faster to chat with friends when you don't have to worry about mistyping due to the limitations of a touchscreen keyboard.

Similarly, you can access your full contact list and make calls through your PC while still using your personal phone number. This way, you can easily connect a full-size headset with a dedicated microphone for easy hands-free calling without worrying about keeping your phone glued to your neck. This will help you avoid the cramps that people often develop when talking on their phones for long periods. Since the call is happening via your computer, you can also keep your smartphone free for other uses.

Notifications Management

An average smartphone receives hundreds of notifications on a regular basis, which constantly distracts people from their work or entertainment. With this system, you can easily check all your notifications straight from the computer without having to pick up and unlock your phone every few minutes. Since the system keeps a full record of all your notifications, you also don't have to worry about accidentally swiping away important notifications and then fretting about missing information.

Availability

Intel will launch the Unison platform through select Intel Evo laptops that feature the 12th Gen Intel Core Processors. The company is working with Acer, HP, Lenovo, and others to integrate this service in upcoming 13th Gen powered offerings as well. We will probably see a full-scale deployment of this platform by next year, with widespread integration with all types of iOS and Android devices.
