AR Tools for Online Shopping

Snapchat is expanding the functionality of its new AR shopping tool, Dress Up, which allows users to virtually try on different clothes using their app. Users can then buy the clothes they like from within the app itself. This new feature is now working in collaboration with a costume company called Disguise to let users try on Halloween costumes for the upcoming festival season.

As part of this collaboration, the company has uploaded the entire collection of Halloween costumes from the popular brand onto the app in the form of 3D assets with the help of a computer vision-based feature called Scan. Users can find these costumes by searching for "Disguise costumes" in the search bar, which then lets them browse through all the pieces. You can also find the same through Lens Explorer.

The collection includes costumes from a variety of popular movie and TV franchises like Stranger Things, Harry Potter, Squid Game, Minecraft, Ghostbusters and more. To try on these costumes, users will have to take full-body pictures of themselves using the app interface and upload them to the AR tool. After which, the smart filter technology will overlay the costume you want to try over your existing clothes.

You can easily save your new look as a downloadable picture and send it to your friends for final approval. Once you have decided which ones you like, you can buy the costume directly from the app itself. Since the smart filter already measures your body before overlaying the costume, you will automatically get the size that fits you perfectly.

The company is hailing this as the future of shopping, as you never have to get out of your home to buy anything again. They aren't the only ones working on such tech either, as Amazon, Pinterest, and Google are all trying to leverage AR tech to make virtual dressing rooms the new norm. Not just for clothes but makeup and accessories as well.
