The company accepted that a lot of people use YouTube as a search engine these days. Especially for topics related to health and fitness, more specifically, how to live with various diseases or get relief for specific symptoms. In order to prevent misinformation from spreading about these conditions, the platform is working on highlighting relevant information about the same in a curated manner.
For example, if you search for information about a topic related to cancer, the Personal Stories section will show videos posted by people who have been diagnosed with cancer and have shared their personal experiences about the same. Similar results will pop up when looking for other physical and mental health conditions.
The company is working hard to ensure that all results showcased in this section are strictly about personal lived experience and in no way promote any product or service. They will be putting together a strict fact-checking system that will ensure any misinformation or advertisements are removed immediately.
For now, this feature is still in the testing phase and will only be available to users in the US. If it proves successful, they will eventually roll it out to other regions of the world.
