Display Upgrades
This upgrade is specific to the Echo Dot with Clock, which now features a more versatile 5x21 LED with high-density dot technology. This makes the display look more vibrant and dynamic while also introducing new options for information delivery. For example, in this new version, you can view not only the time but also the latest weather information, calendar event times, and much more.
Audio Upgrades
Both the Echo Dot speakers have undergone a complete audio architecture redesign, with new custom full-range drivers and high excursion speakers. These upgrades claim to drastically improve the audio quality by clearing up the vocals, and doubling the bass, while still maintaining the same compact form factor.
Smart Sensors
In addition to the impressive yet passive upgrades, there are also new active components in the form of special ambient sensors that further improve the day-to-day user experience. For example, a new temperature sensor helps the speaker keep track of the temperature in and around the room. This way, you can set automatic reminders for Alexa to switch on a smart fan or AC unit whenever it gets too warm inside.
Similarly, a new accelerometer located inside the speaker can now be used to understand tap gesture controls. So, in addition to voice controls, you can simply tap the top part of the speaker to pause or resume music, dismiss alarms and timers, and perform a wide variety of other gestures.
Privacy Upgrades
Considering that a lot of people are worried about having an active listening device within their homes, Amazon has worked on upgrading the privacy settings of the device to put their minds at ease. Towards this end, the speakers now feature a special microphone on/off button that lets you turn the listening function off at any given moment. You also get the ability to access and delete all the voice recordings that the device does make while in listening mode. This way, you can have the peace of mind of knowing that your personal information is in safe hands.
Pricing and Availability
Both the speakers will still be available in the original Glacier White colour scheme. The Echo Dot gets a new Deep-Sea Blue option in addition to an exclusive Charcoal one, while the Echo Dot with Clock makes do with a new Cloud Blue version. The new Echo Dot and Echo Dot with Clock will go on pre-order from October 26 at a starting price of AED 299.99 and AED 279.99, respectively.
