Compact Body
The ZV-1F features a slim and lightweight body that weighs barely 229g. It features a bunch of recessed buttons on the top, allowing you to tweak most of the camera settings easily. A special Bokeh Switch allows users to quickly switch the background bokeh off and on, even while recording a video.
A similar button controls a unique Product Showcase setting that allows users to seamlessly shift focus between their own face and any individual product that they want to highlight while shooting a video review. Other unique additions include a self-timer and recording lamp to make video content even easier to capture. Finally, you get a Vari-Angle LCD touchscreen with a more comprehensive list of features and settings.
Vlogging Features
The video capture is done with the help of an ultra-wide 20mm prime lens. You can easily stabilize the footage thanks to a special electronic Active Mode that keeps the frame steady and smooth when walking. The audio department is handled with the help of a directional three-capsule mic that is protected by a windscreen for clear audio recordings in outdoor conditions.
You can easily change the speed of the footage to make it feel more impactful with the help of an S&Q mode that can slow it down up to 5x or fasten it up, up to 60x for an effortless hyper lapse effect. If you want to tweak it further, a Creative Look function allows you to select between up to 10 preset options for tone, brightness, colour depth and more.
In addition to the atmospheric presets, a variety of software tuning functions are available to highlight the subject of your videos. The most obvious is a Soft Skin Effect, which smoothens the skin tone and reduces wrinkles. You can ensure perfect lighting conditions for your subjects with a Face Priority AE, which automatically adjusts the brightness when shooting videos, even in dynamic lighting conditions.
Of course, you also get the benefit of Sony’s signature precision focusing and Eye AF for humans and animals, which keeps your subjects in focus. If you want, you can always change everything up via the camera’s touchscreen.
Connectivity and Accessories
In order to make it a true vloggers camera, the company has worked hard to ensure quick and easy compatibility with smartphones. This is made possible with Sony’s new smartphone app called Imaging Edge Mobile Plus, with allows you to connect the camera to your phone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi.
Users can set aside specific footage for posting on social media using simple shot marks that can be placed through the touchscreen. These sections are then automatically cut out and transferred in 15, 30, or 60-second marked clips, which can be posted directly to your favourite social media apps without having to edit the whole footage.
The app also acts as a remote control for the camera and all its settings while also displaying the battery levels and remaining storage capacity. If you want more tangible control, the camera is also compatible with the GP-VPT2BT Shooting Grip, which comes with a Wireless Remote Commander for cable-free operation. The grip can also expand into a mini tripod for stable hands-free shots. It even features an accessory shoe for connecting an external microphone and other devices.
