Google Pixel Launch

Event Recap

Google just held its Made by Google event for its updated lineup of Pixel products. We had been following the rumours and leaks related to this event for quite some time, with all kinds of information about the new Pixel Phones, Pixel Watch, and Pixel Tablet already circulating on the internet. Still, we are responsible for covering the latest updates related to these products and all the new and exciting features that Google introduced with the official launch. So, here we go.

Google-Pixel-Launch

Google Pixel 7 Series

As expected, the Google Pixel 7 series was launched with a 6.3-inch 90Hz FHD+ AMOLED display, while the Pro comes with a 6.7-inch 120Hz QHD+ OLED version. Both of them can be paired with up to 12GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. The Pro model also has a 512GB version, although Google only released the prices for the base 128GB versions. There is no microSD expansion on either model, but you do get a nano-SIM slot along with an eSIM module.

The new Tensor G2 is based on Samsung's 4nm manufacturing process and features a 2x Cortex-X1 + 2x A76 and 4x A55 layout. For the GPU, it uses the Mali-G710 MC10, which promises a 35% boost in performance. You also get a new Tensor core and modem along with it. Overall, the system is expected to provide a 60% boost in performance and another 20% in efficiency when it comes to AI processing.

Both models feature a new 50MP primary sensor, along with a 12MP ultrawide. The Pro model also gets a 48MP telephoto lens, which can support up to 5x optical and 30x Super Resolution zoom. They have updated the ultrawide sensor with autofocus, and it can also enable a special Macro Focus mode for a close-up of up to 3cms.

You get all of the expected connectivity features, like 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, GPS, NFC and USB Type-C. Along with an in-display fingerprint sensor, facial unlock, and a special Titan M2 security chip exclusive to the Pro model. Other unique attributes include the fact that both models feature frames made from 100% recycled aluminium and have an IP68 dust and water resistance rating.

Google Pixel Watch

Google also officially unveiled its Google Pixel Watch during this event. It comes with a sleek and round body that features a unique 3D glass dial that wraps around the face of the watch. It features the latest in Fitbit heart rate tracking technology that claims to measure your heartbeat once every second. The company also promises a fall detection feature that will be officially launched sometime next year.

While they didn't exactly say what processor is used to enable all the smartwatch features, they did claim that it is powerful enough to do all sorts of machine learning tasks without the need for a smartphone. Since the watch hosts the latest version of WearOS, you can expect it to handle all sorts of smartwatch activities, such as showing notifications, sending messages, listening to music, getting turn-by-turn navigation, controlling Nest home devices, using Google Assistant, and much more. The most impressive fact is that the company claims it can do all that and more while maintaining a full day's battery.

Google Pixel Tablet

Last but not least, Google unveiled the much-awaited Google Pixel Tablet, which comes with the same Tensor G2 processor as the smartphones. As expected, it features a 10.95-inch housed in an aluminium body that is wrapped with a nano-ceramic coating. Google has worked hard to improve the look and functionality of Android 12L to make it a seamless tablet-friendly experience that features the same Material You design as the latest Pixel devices.

They have also introduced a special wireless charging dock for the tablet, which features a built-in speaker wrapped in a special textured material that looks like a soft cloth. There is a heavy focus on hands-free use with the help of Google Assistant, so you can control all your smart devices from a single interface, which also acts as a personal entertainment system wherever you go.

Price and Availability

Even though this was the official launch for all these products, Google didn't really give out a whole lot of details in regard to the actual specifications of the devices themselves. In fact, they didn't even reveal any price or availability information regarding the Pixel tablet at all. All we know is that it will become available to the public sometime next year.

What they did reveal was the price for the Pixel smartphones, which start at $600 for the Pixel 7 and $900 for the Pixel 7 Pro. You will be able to pre-order the devices from the 13th of October, with customers receiving a free Pixel Watch with the Pixel 7 Pro pre-order, and a free Pixel Buds Pro with the Pixel 7 pre-order.

The Google Pixel Watch will come at a starting price of $349 for the Bluetooth variant and $399 for the LTE variant. There was no information shared about any pre-orders or open sale dates about the same. We expect that it will go on sale around the same time as the tablet, whenever that happens to be. So, stay tuned for future updates, as we will keep an eye on all the developments about the new Pixel range of products.
