Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 Review

Powerful Tablet with Powerful Features

The tablet market has been pretty underdeveloped and overlooked for quite some time now, with only a handful of players offering products that are even worth considering. A lot of this has to do with the dominance of Apple and their ever-expanding iPad lineup, which has a stranglehold on the premium tablet market.

However, just like every other segment that Apple competes in, their offerings are just the most visible options, not necessarily the best when it comes to most consumers. There is still a massive audience for entertainment tablets, who can’t afford to pay the premium for the Apple logo, but still want a product that can match that level of quality and performance. For those, the Lenovo Yoga Tab 13 is easily one of the best options out there.

Design & Build Quality

Tablets are mostly used for consuming media, therefore to get the most out of the product, the function should dictate the form. Unfortunately, most manufacturers didn’t get this memo and continue to work towards trying to make the slimmest body possible. This often results in compromises when it comes to thermal performance, audio output, and even battery life.

Lenovo makes none of those compromises by featuring a unique design that is customized to offer the best multimedia experience. The most obvious design feature is the addition of a wide, rounded base that houses the quad-speaker array from JBL, as well as a foldable metallic stand, in addition to all the ports. The stand is pretty sturdy and can be used to set the tablet at all sorts of viewing angles or even hang it on a wall if you don’t have a table to set it on.

The cylindrical base extends out at the back, so it isn’t obvious when you’re consuming media from the front. It not only helps keep the tablet stable in standing mode but also offers added space to amplify the soundstage, which is already pretty impressive thanks to the support for Dolby Atmos.

While the base has a smooth plastic finish, the upper part of the tablet features soft-touch materials at the rear, so you get a nice touch experience even while moving the tablet around. This unique rear end blends seamlessly with the front display, which looks amazing thanks to the even, narrow bezels and the lack of any buttons or ports to distract from the content. In short, the company has taken special care to ensure that you get the best possible experience when it comes to both ergonomics and touch.

Display & Performance

The display quality matches, if not exceeds, the overall build quality of the device. You get an impressive 13” 2K display that supports 100% sRGB Dolby Vision for a vibrant and colourful viewing experience. It is a 60Hz LTPS panel, which can get decently bright at around 400 nits, and features a 10-point touch experience.

The screen is TÜV-certified for eye care protection, and the colours can be further tuned according to your preference. You can use it as a secondary touch display for your laptop, thanks to easy connectivity via a micro-HDMI port. The optional Lenovo Precision Pen 2 can even turn it into your very own sketchpad, which makes it a must-have for creative prosumers who want to supplement their existing setup.

All of this is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 870 chipset, along with a Qualcomm Adreno 650 GPU. You also get 8 GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 128 GB of onboard storage. There is no in-built option for storage expansion, but you can always use external hard drives, thanks to the addition of a superfast USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port, which also doubles up for charging. The charging doesn’t take a lot of time, thanks to support for a 30W quick charge, and a fully-charged battery will easily give you 10+ hours of media consumption, so you won’t need to do it that often either.

When combined together, this setup makes for a pretty versatile device that can handle anything you can throw at it. Whether it be basic media consumption, high-quality graphics work, or even the occasional gaming session. In this way, it can easily replace a Chromebook or even an entry-level laptop.

Camera & Connectivity

Lenovo understands that the Yoga Tab 13 is a media device at its core, so they have made sure you have all the basic connectivity features required for a seamless user experience. You get a basic 8MP RGB + TOF camera at the front, which can handle video calls with ease. There is no rear camera array since the company understands no one wants to use a tablet for dedicated photography. This helps save on weight, as well as cost.

You do get Wi-Fi 6 and Bluetooth 5.2, in addition to the USB-C and micro-HDMI, so you will never run out of ways to connect your accessories. There is no 3.5mm jack, although you do get a 3.5mm USB-C adapter just in case you really need that port. The setup is rounded off with the addition of the usual power and volume control buttons on the side.

Conclusion

As you can see, the company has found a way to give customers all the connectivity options they need without adding any unnecessary ports that would only take up space and make the device more expensive. This gives insight into the thought process that went into the making of this amazing device. This setup will cost you $600 or around 2300 AED, which is a decent price to pay for a device that easily matches and beats the competition when it comes to the Android tablet market.
