In hopes of expanding this portfolio of video games, the company has decided to build their own gaming studio, which will be located in the Finnish city of Helsinki. This studio will be headed by former Zynga and EA executive Marko Lastikka, who will be responsible for the creation of new video game titles based on existing Netflix shows and movies.
The company has decided to build this studio in Finland because that will put it in close proximity to Next Games, another video game developing studio that the company recently acquired to help boost its gaming portfolio. The hopes are that once the studio is up and running, they can share talent and ideas between the two entities.
This isn't the first acquisition done by the international media company, which also purchased Night School Studio and Boss Fight Entertainment, which are also video game developers with some repute in the industry. In fact, shortly after the acquisition of Night School Studio, the company released a special Netflix edition of their popular supernatural video game title, Oxenfree, for their platform.
This is all part of their plans to build out their gaming division into a properly profitable entity, just like their movie production business. They teased some of these projects during their recent TUDUM 2022 event, where they announced a whole host of future projects targeted toward a diverse and global audience. Let us wait and see what fruits these actions bear in the coming future.
