Concept designs at Razer are experiments of innovation by their design and engineering teams to get inputs from the community and optimize Razer’s future product portfolio. Previous concepts have either gone to market or had their elements included in final products.
The smart mask aims to help elevate the convenience of everyday wear while tackling common social interaction challenges, whereas the new transformable gaming chair provides complete immersion from its haptics, graphics and lighting in an adjustable form factor.
For an exclusive sneak peek of these concepts, Razer invites all CES 2021 attendees and the international gaming community to join the RazerStore Live event on January 12th at 10 am PST, broadcast on Razer’s YouTube, Twitch and Facebook channels.
Project Hazel - The World's Smartest Face Mask
From the beginning of the pandemic, Razer has been dynamically active in the battle against COVID-19, including the conversion of its manufacturing plants to produce certified medical masks and donating 1 million surgical face masks to the frontline staff under the Razer Health initiative. A natural evolution of the initiative, the multi-use Project Hazel smart mask from Razer focuses on the increased emphasis on hygiene and preparedness for unexpected health crises as well as the environmental issues arising from disposable masks while optimizing the features of a multi-use personal protective covering.
Further preparing consumers for the “new normal” in the journey ahead, the mask concept design innovates with N95 medical-grade respirator protection including detachable and rechargeable active ventilators and Smart Pods that regulate airflow for maximum breathability. Its high bacterial filtration efficiency (BFE) Smart Pods filter at least 95% of airborne particles and have high resistance against fluids.
For better social interaction, Project Hazel has a transparent design so those around you can view facial movements such as a smile or laugh and allow the hearing impaired to lip-read what the wearer is saying. Internal lights activate automatically under dark conditions, allowing users to express themselves clearly regardless of the lighting conditions.
Moreover, since masks can also muffle voices, a new Razer VoiceAmp Technology (patent pending) uses an inbuilt microphone and amplifier to enhance the user’s speech for clear communication while staying safe during social interactions.
To minimize the waste created by disposable masks, the smart mask uses swappable and rechargeable disc-type ventilators that can be easily sanitized of bacteria and viruses by putting it inside its dual-purpose wireless fast charging box with disinfecting UV light. Indicator lights show charge levels, and long-lasting battery life from a full charge enables all-day mask use. The waterproof, scratch-resistant mask is as rugged as it is sustainable—made of recyclable plastic to greatly minimize the waste created by single-use masks.
The silicon-lined smart mask provides comfort with active cooling and regulation, circulating in the fresh air and venting out CO2. The result is an air-tight seal from its adjustable ear loops, allowing custom sizes for a perfect fit that keeps from obstructing the mouth. For extra user entertainment and style, users can activate two customizable Razer Chroma RGB lighting zones offering 16.8 million colours and a host of dynamic lighting effects.
The smart mask will continue to be enhanced through rigorous testing and user feedback to ensure safety compliance and optimum comfort and usability. Design improvements will also be ongoing to support the evolving user needs and to provide value without compromising on performance and functionality. Project Hazel will be core to Razer’s ongoing support and commitment to public health and safety within the community.
Project Brooklyn - Transform Into Next-gen Immersion
Created for all types of gamers and engineered to conveniently fit in one’s bedroom or gaming room, the Project Brooklyn gaming chair concept design changes from a comfortable gaming chair into a complete entertainment powerhouse that provides breathtaking, next-level immersion for both PC and console gamers.
Project Brooklyn is a state-of-the-art gaming chair built using carbon fibre and RGB lighting, transforming easily into a fully engaging gaming station complete with panoramic visuals from a 60” rollout display, stock-still tactile feedback inbuilt within the seat, and 4D armrests which roll out into controllable peripheral tables. The existing types of all-in-one chairs that deliver a “cockpit” type seating and mounting hardware is usually humongous and their costs are astronomical.
With inspiration from the Razer Iskur introduced in October 2020, Project Brooklyn is miles ahead in user touch points, connecting the gaming chair to the display and more functional parts like armrests, while still delivering on comfort from plush, high-density foam cushions that support your distinct body shape. The leather-stitched seat back is built in a robust carbon fibre body to maintain perfect posture throughout long gaming sessions.
The adjustable base on which the chair sits is complete with cable routing and takes design inspiration from the Razer Raptor display. Mounted from the chair’s spine and deployable with the touch of a button is a 60” full surround OLED screen for amazing visual detail. Folding into the chair back when not being used, the roll-out display setup puts you into the centre of the action with sharp detail and a savoury panoramic experience.
The fully adjustable 4D armrests cleanly tuck away collapsible tables with flexible ergonomics, allowing users to switch easily between PC gaming with a mouse and keyboard and consoles. There are separate panels in each armrest enabling different keyboard and mouse ergonomics and each of the halves folds away when not in use.
Building on the success of Razer’s audio-driven haptic feedback prototype displayed at CES 2019, the latest native Razer HyperSense integration has been built around the chair’s skeleton for the ultimate in tactile engagement. The independently activated high-sensitivity modules offer a feel for the most sensitive vibrations felt during gameplay, such as jumping into water or landing on a platform for truly engaging gameplay.
Razer Chroma RGB has been placed along the outsides of the seat cushions and stands for personalization featuring 16.8 million colours, triggered as you game alongside other synchronized peripherals by over 150 integrated game titles.
Razer will continue developing this gaming chair concept, conducting testing with top e-sports athletes and influencers to benchmark feasibility, comfort and performance. Razer is constantly strengthened by its passion for taking on new challenges and innovating in categories that gamers appreciate, in ways that address the road ahead.
