Automated Mopping
This is not the first model that features a vacuum and mop combination. Unfortunately, in the older models, users had to stop the Roomba and fit the special mop pads before the robot could carry out the function. Once done, they then have to stop it once again and remove the pads so it can go back to regular vacuuming. A problem with this system is that the device is then limited to surfaces that can handle mopping. So, if the system encounters a carpet or rug in the way, it either has to avoid that area completely or risk getting it messy with water and cleaning fluid.
In this new system, the mop is mounted on top of the Roomba, connected to a retractable system which can automatically lift and dock it back into the machine body when not needed. This way, the robot can continue the vacuum function irrespective of the surface it comes across. Since the robot can now mop and vacuum at the same time, it also saves on cleaning time and energy expenditure.
Special Sensors
To make this system more efficient, the company has integrated special sensors into the device, which can automatically detect the pad and tank levels before and after cleaning. If the system goes below the recommended levels, it will send a notification to your smartphone app, letting you know that it is time to replace them. If, by chance, you forget to carry out the change or are not available to do it, then the system simply switches to a vacuum-only mode to prevent any issues. Thus, keeping the cleaning process from being interrupted.
Smart Controls
In addition to monitoring the reserve levels and the progress of the cleaning process, you can also control the Roomba in new and interesting ways. For example, users can now customize the water pump setting to increase or decrease the amount of liquid used while mopping. Depending on the cleaning requirements, they can set the number of cleaning passes the robot must accomplish before the surface is deemed clean enough. There is even a new active room skipping feature that can be controlled through the app or voice inputs from the users.
Smart Bin
Since the bin and tank have been integrated into a single dock, the system can automatically dispense the dirt collected and refill the cleaning solution. The new larger bin can also collect up to 60 days' worth of dirt before being cleaned out. Once again, you will get notifications if the bin gets filled up and the Roomba can't dispense off the dirt collected. As Amazon integration with the Roomba system gets more enhanced, chances are that soon enough, you might even be able to set automatic buying commands for cleaning fluid when the docking system is about to run out of it.
Pricing and Availability
For now, the new Roomba Combo j7+ is available only in the US and UK, for a starting price of $1,099 and £999, respectively. The company is planning to launch it in other international markets in the coming months.
