Between the coronavirus and the increasing pollution in most major metro cities in the world, we have finally reached a point in human history where it isn’t completely weird to think about using a filter that sits on your face, to help purify the air we breathe in.
Sure, we can wear regular masks for protection, but they come with all sorts of restrictions and limitations that make regular use seem uncomfortable or not as beneficial. Enter, LG’s PuriCare Wearable Air Purifier GEN 2. This is a unique product that combines the design of face masks with the best portable air filtration modules available to create a product that helps you breathe better.
Design & Build Quality
The body of the wearable air purifier is made of lightweight yet durable plastic that features in-built HEPA filters, air intake fans, microphones, speakers, and other valuable machinery to make the purifier run efficiently. You get two of each on either side, which means there are identical modules on the inside of the mask that can be taken out for easy repair and replacement.
These modules are separated from your face thanks to a specially molded face covering that has an ergonomic design meant to sit comfortably on your face without weighing it down. The structure is made from medical-grade silicone for enhanced safety and usability. Just like other parts of the wearable air purifier, you can replace this as well when it gets older and worn down.
Hardware & Performance
Inside the mask enclosure itself, you get a three-layer structure that does most of the heavy lifting. The first layer consists of dual fans that blow air into the mask from the outside. They use respiratory sensors to track your inhales and exhales, and modulate their speed to match that of your own breathing.
This air is then blown through two H13 grade HEPA filters, which help take down the majority of contaminants in the air before they get inside your body. Finally, there is a microphone near your face that takes your voice and projects it out through tiny speakers located on the very outside of the mask structure. The company calls it their VoiceON feature, and it works well when it comes to reducing the voice muffling that happens when wearing masks.
All of these functions are supported by a built-in battery that can last up to 8 hours of non-stop usage. You get a special case that helps the air purifier charge within 2 hours. What makes it so special is the inclusion of UVnano technology, which kills 99.99% of bacteria that resides on the mask, while it is charging within the case. All this is done automatically while the case is closed for charging, so you don’t have to worry about reusability either.
All in all, this is a great product for people who worry about their health and the air they breathe in, and it comes with all sorts of safeguards to ensure that you get the best use out of it, even with heavy day-to-day use.
