Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra Review

Amazing Camera, Disappointingly Slow Charging

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is hands down one of the best camera phones for 2022, and it is equally as useful for working professionals as it is for enthusiastic amateurs. Samsung is not just selling this phone on the strength of its camera; however - it is one of the finest smartphones available because of its powerful processor, beautiful screen, and ample storage space - we found it to be just as good for gaming as we did streaming movies online. Of course, the price is not cheap — it is a pricey smartphone with a price to match that of the iPhone 13 Pro Max. However, this takes the cake for creatives or any other user due to its improved camera experience, more vibrant screen, and stylus - the S Pen.

S Pen

The S Pen can be used for sketches, as well as taking notes and highlighting papers using its button. It also has a shutter on it, making it a convenient remote trigger when used in the camera app by pressing the button. It's simple to bring up the note-taking applications when the inspiration strikes — removing the S Pen from the body immediately displays a list of the most useful apps. Even if you draw on a blank screen, you can make a note. Also, we love that you'll never lose the stylus because the phone alerts you when it's moved too far from the phone.

Display

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 6.8-inch Quad HD+ Super AMOLED display with a 2K resolution and 1750 nits of brightness, as well as a 120Hz refresh rate - if you were wondering how these specifications compare to competitors, we'll save you some time: the Galaxy is usually superior.

For creative professionals who work with pictures, this kind of display is ideal: images are vivid, and the contrast is sharp, making videos you edit or photos you capture pop. Plus, the bigger size is a bonus because you have more room to view, type, or scribble with the stylus.

Camera

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is a camera champ, with the same hardware and software modifications as its predecessors. Apart from the S21 Ultra, which has identical components, modifications here give the newer phone an advantage. The primary camera has a 108-megapixel sensor and f/1.8 23mm sensor, both of which capture vibrant images of near and far subjects. The ultra-wide camera uses a 12MP sensor with an f/2.2 13mm lens to capture images with a 120-degree field of view.

There are two telephoto lenses: one with a 10MP sensor and an f/2.4 70mm lens for 3x optical zoom, and the other has a 20MP camera with an 80mm focal length and a 2.8 aperture for 5x optical zoom. Even this unexceptional zoom is useful for keeping subjects at a medium distance. Finally, we arrive at the super-zoom camera, which has a 10MP sensor that is paired with an f/4.9 230mm sensor for a whopping 10x optical zoom. This is utilized to bring up close-distant objects such as individual buildings in a wider scene.

The Galaxy Note 9's front-facing camera boasts a resolution of 40MP and an f/2.2 26mm wide lens, making it ideal for artistic self-portraits. Video capture is limited to 8K at 24fps or 4K at 60fps; however, the latter does have a negative impact on battery life as well as heating up the device.

Performance

The Samsung smartphone comes with an Exynos 2200 processor, which is quite powerful but does not compare to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 or Bionic A15 chips used in other phones. The smartphone's CPU will give you all the processing power you'll need for games, video or picture editing, and rendering. Its ability to connect to 5G networks also permits you to utilize super-speedy networks as long as you have a compatible contract and reside in a covered area.

The Harman Kardon-tuned phone's speakers are some of the finest we've heard in a smartphone, but if you want the clearest possible sound for creative activities, use headphones.

Battery Life

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra's 5,000mAh battery will keep it running for a full day when idle, but its large display and powerful chip prevent a second day. You won't even get one day of usage if you shoot a lot of videos or photographs continuously, so invest in a power bank.

The device supports Qualcomm's QuickCharge 2.0 technology, which minimizes charge times to under an hour when fully charged (from empty to full).

Verdict

If you can afford the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra, we suggest purchasing it. It's great for shooting photographs and watching movies, playing games, or just surfing social media - truly, there's nothing it can't accomplish well.

If you do not want to spend a bomb on a smartphone, though, you may be better off without it.

However, if your smartphone is essential for photo or video shooting, videography, video editing, or anything else that involves images, this is the phone to get. We were always anticipating the next photoshoot or image edit session because we wanted to see what else we could accomplish with it.

Yay!

Incredibly impressive camera performance
A host of useful S Pen functions
Elegant and stylish display

Nay!

The cost is genuinely outrageous and off-putting.
Too large a phone to hold comfortably for routine use.
Slow to charge despite the price tag.
