Display Upgrades
The X Fold+ comes with a foldable 8.03-inch main display, as well as a secondary 6.53-inch panel that is placed outside. Both of them are AMOLED panels that have a new superconducting anti-reflective coating and feature a 2K+ and FHD+ resolution, respectively. They also support a native 120Hz refresh rate, with the bigger screen getting the additional benefit of a new Game Mode, which lets users overclock the touch sampling rate to 240Hz for a smoother experience. The model also features a new in-display Ultrasound Fingerprint System under both displays. There is also support for facial recognition, but that is an optical-only unit, so the performance will depend heavily on software optimization.
Spec Upgrades
The biggest upgrade featured in this section is the addition of the latest Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset. It is paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage. This means that this model can easily compete with the best flagships out there in terms of raw power. It might even have a slight edge over the competition, as the bigger body will offer more space for heat dissipation, so the chances of thermal throttling are a bit lower.
It also features a bigger 4730mAh battery, which supports faster 80W wired charging. Even the wireless charging modules get an upgrade, with the Fold+ featuring 50W fast charge in both wireless and reverse wireless charging modes. There is, of course, support for all the usual connectivity options, like 5G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 5.2, NFC, and GPS. The only thing missing is the 3.5mm headphone jack, with the USB-C charging port pulling double duty as the audio output connector instead.
Camera Upgrades
The X Fold+ gets a quad-camera setup in the rear, with a 50MP main camera, a 48MP ultra-wide, a 12MP portrait unit, and a 2MP periscope module that enables 5x optical zoom. Both the periscope and main camera feature optical image stabilisation, while the others get basic digital support. The pictures and videos taken from this impressive hardware setup are further optimised thanks to the dozens of Vivo-exclusive photography and videography modes, which are carried over inside the custom OriginOS Ocen skin that was developed specifically for this foldable series.
On the front, you only get a single 16MP camera, which should be enough for video conferencing. The whole setup has been optimized in partnership with Zeiss Professional Imaging, so you can expect accurate colour science and realistic video outputs.
Pricing and Availability
This updated model comes with a new Huaxia Red colour scheme, along with a matching faux leather case. You can also get it in the original Blue and Black versions with similar cases. The price of the Vivo X Fold Plus is set at CNY 9,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and CNY 10,999 for the 12GB + 512GB variant. Currently, they are set to go on sale in China on September 29th. We will have to wait and see when they become available for the global market.
