Samsung Odyssey G7 1000R 32 Inch Curved Monitor Review

A Dream Display For Any Gamer Out There

The 32-inch Odyssey G7 from Samsung is all about extremes, which is what makes it among the best gaming monitors. Most of us already know that gaming monitors differ from business displays in various aspects. The operative word here is more, which also applies to refresh rate, resolution, colour, features, and size. The Samsung Odyssey G7 features a 2K VA panel with a 1000R curvature, the tightest curve we have ever seen, along with 240Hz, Adaptive-Sync, DisplayHDR 600, and extended colour. Samsung has gone above and beyond with this monitor and offers the best possible specs in it. Let us have a closer look.

Design

Samsung has done a terrific job with the design of the  Odyssey G7. The excellent build quality of this product is just what a premium flagship monitor needs. The wide-pronged stand and the majority of the outside surface are made of plastic, but it is excellent, high-quality plastic with a sturdy matte finish. There is a distinctive pattern on the monitor’s back which emphasises the centre circle, where the display is mounted to the stand. Samsung’s Infinity Core illumination, which is essentially a fancy name for RGB LEDs that light up this space, is located here.

Additionally, there are two small illumination zones on the front that are also single RGB zones. Although we could do without the RGB components, at least they are well-integrated into the design. Any top-quality gaming accessories can be easily plugged into this monitor.

The stand offers a good range of motion, including the ability to modify height, tilt, pivot, and swivel. It is relatively durable. For a huge 32-inch panel, the height adjustment is fairly good, and if you choose to use a curved display that way, you can also use this monitor in portrait mode. Additionally, VESA mounting is supported.

Display Performance

The Odyssey G7 offers astoundingly quick response speeds at 240Hz. For a monitor technology that has sometimes been attacked for being slow and unsuitable for gaming, what users will witness with this monitor is astonishing. The VA panel has vibrant colours and deep blacks, especially with Samsung’s quantum dot technology included.

As far as displays go, it can support DisplayHDR 600 and has a maximum frame rate of 240Hz for incredibly smooth animation. Although it’s not extremely sharp at 32 inches, the 2560×1440 resolution is a nice improvement above the standard 1080p resolution of monitors this fast. In some colour tones, you can really see the space between the pixels, giving the impression of a faint screen door.

Features

Variable frame rate (VRR) support and NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro certifications are both features of the Samsung Odyssey G7. The VRR range over DisplayPort is 80-240Hz for NVIDIA cards and 60-240Hz for AMD cards. The VRR range is restricted to 48-144Hz over HDMI. There won’t be any screen tearing or stuttering as long as your frame rate is within the VRR range because the monitor may adjust its refresh rate dynamically in response to your FPS.

The refresh rate will be doubled for smoother performance when your frame rate falls below the VRR range. LFC, or Low Framerate Compensation, is what AMD calls this. The reaction time overdrive cannot be changed after FreeSync is enabled; however, since there isn’t much of a difference between the modes, the performance is constant over the whole variable refresh rate range, which is not present in other gaming monitors.

To stop the brightness and flickering problem related to VRR, make sure you have at least the 1009.3 firmware installed. The OSD menu now has a “VRR Control” option that the firmware adds to stop brightness flickering, although some gamers may be sensitive to the micro stuttering it introduces. The monitor’s OSD menu is easy to use and has many helpful functions.

Thanks to the joystick that is positioned beneath the screen’s bottom bezel, navigating through the menu is quick and simple. Two DisplayPort 1.4 inputs with DSC (Display Stream Compression), HDMI 2.0 (max 144Hz), a headphone port, and a dual-USB 3.0 hub are available for connectivity.

Is It Worth It?

The Samsung Odyssey G7 1000R Curved Display monitor for the 32-inch variant retails for $799 and is available on the official website of Samsung and in all the retail stores of Samsung worldwide.

The Samsung Odyssey G7 is a great 1440p 240Hz gaming monitor if you like aggressively curved panels because it has a good contrast ratio and quick pixel response time. The curved form not only aids in immersion but also looks very stunning. You may create a stunningly spectacular gaming display by including the LED backlight. The Odyssey will be just as adaptable as you are if you don’t devote all of your free time to a single genre, accommodating both pace and resolution.

Particularly in dimly lit settings, that steep curve is amazing for a wrap-around view that makes you feel like you’re being drawn into the games you’re playing. Given its image quality, performance, and features, it offers outstanding value for the money, even while being pricey. After all, it’s designed for people who have top-tier gaming systems and want to make the most of them.
