This is not the first slidable display that we have seen from the brand, which recently showcased a smaller 6.7-inch version of the same. Other than the smaller size, that earlier prototype also featured a vertical extending mechanism, while this new one seems to expand horizontally.
This new prototype was showcased by Samsung Display CEO JS Choi, who called it the world's first 17-inch slidable display for PCs. The distinction of naming it a slidable display and specifying that it was made for PCs highlights the direction Samsung seems to be going with this technology.
Due to its reveal happening at an Intel event, we can assume that it will be used in smaller tablet-like computing devices, such as the Microsoft Surface series. For now, we have no actual details about the display, like the resolution, brightness, refresh rate, or any other specifications. We will just have to wait and see if the company reveals more at a future event.
