Collaboration With LG
In the tech community, there has been significant discussion about Apple’s decision to use a Micro-LED display for the Apple Watch. Apple intends to adopt Micro-LED panels in the Apple Watch beginning in 2024 or 2025, with components created internally rather than by third parties like Samsung or LG Display. In the second half of 2024, LG Display will start making Micro-LED components, giving them enough time to make panels for Apple. The transition to Micro-LED technology may enable better contrast, better colour reproduction, and even brighter displays in the Apple Watch, which is not present in any other high-end luxury watches.
Products
The high-end Apple Watch Ultra seems like a natural choice given its target audience and price range, but it’s still unclear which models of the Apple Watch will be the first to adopt the change. For users of the watch outside, the enhanced brightness might also be advantageous. It’s important to note that the Korean tech giant Samsung is another business that is researching Micro-LED technology for wearables, in addition to Apple.
Future
It will take firms like LG Display’s assistance to make the changeover to Micro-LED technology, which is a substantial one. It will be interesting to see how and when these technology behemoths integrate Micro-LED into their product lines as the market continues to develop.
