Design
The Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds have a more compact design than the previous model. This design modification probably makes it easier to achieve a better fit in the ear. There may be more to the design than what we can see, however, we will know when the product gets launched.
Build Quality
The Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds’ shell is made of glossy black plastic. A tactile dot and a microphone hole are present on the left side, however, it is unclear which microphone is there. The bottom will house a proximity sensor. The touch panel and Bluetooth antenna of the earbuds are both built into the top surface of the earbuds.
Battery & Charging
The official battery capacity of the Sony WF-1000XM5 earbuds is not yet known yet. Leaks show the battery occupying a sizeable portion of the interior. It appears likely that the new earphones will have a smaller battery when compared to the WF-1000XM4. There have also been some substantial alterations to the charging case. The new model will have two pins for communication and charging as opposed to the previous model’s three connectors. Like the current model, the casing material appears matte and will allow wireless charging. The increase in charging capacity signals some sort of improvement for the earbuds, even though the size of the new case cannot be ascertained from the leaked photographs.
